Nyungwe Processing Station is very isolated and uniquely situated at the head of a wide, rising valley that leads into the country's largest rainforest, the Nyungwe Forest. Farmers grow coffee trees right at the very edge of the native forest and all use Nyungwe station to process their coffee cherries.
The station itself is spread over 1 hectare of land, and more than 1,000 smallholder farmers take care of the coffee cherries. In 2022, it processed nearly 190,000 kilograms of coffee cherries. The station is looked after year-round by 5 permanent employees, who are assisted by 60 additional seasonal workers during the high season.
