The history of coffee cultivation in Jamaica is like a story from a book. In 1728 Sir Nicholas Lawes, who later became governor of Jamaica, brought the first coffee trees on Martinique. The land was ideal for this cultivar and nine years later, Jamaica has exported over 37 tonnes of coffee.
Between 1728 and 1768, the coffee industry has developed mainly in the foothills Wed Andrew, but gradually growing coffee spread to the Blue Mountains. Since then, the business has experienced a growing coffee but big ups and downs in 1891 were adopted legislation that defined the guidelines for growing, drying and quality control of coffee. It was also made great efforts to increase production and established "Central Coffee Work" for processing and sorting of coffee. Subsequently, the establishment of the "Coffee Clearing House", which was supposed to clean and sort the coffee export in 1950 "Coffee Industry Board", which had again increased the quality of exported coffee.
